It’s a privilege to have Lake Merritt right minutes away from downtown Oakland, serving as a refuge for wildlife and people. Throughout the year I’ll see different birds come by, some local and others having traveled far distances.
American White Pelican Double-crested Cormorant Pied-billed Grebe
What surprises me the most are the diversity of birds that are attracted to the same space. The Pied-billed Grebe is less than a pound while the American White Pelican is about 15 pounds!
