Alviso Marina County Park

Marshes, salt ponds, and mudflaps–a great combination for a hike and bird watching. Alviso Marina County Park is on the edge of the Don Edwards San Francisco Bay National Wildlife Refuge. With good visibility, you can see clear across the bay.

We started our hike wandering to the salt ponds where large deposits create floating iceberg-like islands and carpets the ground with white salt. Birds and wildlife were active on the visit. Large flocks of western sandpipers flying in unison was surreal, a symphony of flapping wings and air.
