Lake Turlock is a large body of water in the San Joaquin Valley of California. Unlike the coastline, the “Central Valley” is relatively flat, warm, and is the most productive agricultural region of the world. It is also a part of the Pacific Flyway and is inviting to many birds that nest in farmland.

Bird Facts: Ospreys build some of the largest nests in the world. Nests can be over six-feet wide and are constructed out of large sticks, driftwood, and other construction materials, sometimes weighting 300 pounds. Ospreys build their nests on high perches close to water. In areas that they are known to nest, human-made platforms are constructed, providing an alternative to power-lines and other towers.
