With a SLR, tripod, and clear skies by the bay, I was able to play around with light exposure and time.
San Francisco’s Embarcadero lies on the eastern waterfront and represents “Pier 0” in numbering. Locations north/west of the Embarcadero along the bay have odd numbers and locations south have even numbers, with higher numbers further away.
A 10-second exposure with relatively calm water created an almost glass-like sheen to the water, creating long trails of reflected light.
A short exposure into the sun (watch your eyes) can create dramatic contrast and render most objects into simple silhouettes.
