As if a dinner bell had rung, we got to watch many different birds hunting for dinner. This evening was particularly active.
In branches and on the ground, White-crowned Sparrows were looking for seeds, plants, and bugs to eat.
This young White-crowned Sparrow went up to an American Robin asking for food. The Robin was not happy and flapped its wings. Thankfully for the sparrow, its mom came over with something to eat.
A nearby apartment complex used to have a number of Cliff Swallow nests, which were very active earlier in the year. The parent’s food deliveries were incredibly fast, stopping for less than a second before flying off again. Two babies were pressed up against the entrance to be ever closer when a parent came by.
A few Caspian Terns flew by. You can tell when they are fishing since they stare straight into the water while flying over.
A Snowy Egret found a great spot for fishing, in less than 10 minutes it caught and swallowed three fish. The egret hunted like a cat, poised to make a huge leap forward when the right fish was in range.
With flowers blooming, it was not too difficult to find a hummingbird patrolling the area.
