I was fortunate to be out in Golden Gate Park while the cherry blossoms were blooming and to see Great Horned Owls nesting again. They grow up quickly and with most nests hidden, it’s easy to miss them completely. But one nest is visible enough to be seen by curious bystanders and birders.
I took the following photos on two different days, a week apart. I was able to see the mom feed the babies dinner, something that I hadn’t seen in person before. According to local birders, the babies were about two weeks old when I first saw them. In the second visit, just a week later, they were far larger and were eagerly flapping their wings and hopping. It will only be one to two more weeks before they fly off to discover the world on their own!
